Flutter 3.47 is the current stable release line, with Flutter 3.47.6 released on October 1, 2026. The 3.47 release changes how UI libraries ship, makes Impeller the default on desktop, moves Flutter Web closer to Wasm by default, and stabilizes Widget Previews.
What Changed
Flutter 3.47 was released on August 12, 2026. The current stable patch is Flutter 3.47.6 and includes Dart 3.13.5.
The biggest architectural change is the new standalone Material and Cupertino packages. Flutter also turned on Impeller by default for macOS, Windows, and Linux, while continuing the push toward WebAssembly for Flutter Web.
Key Developer Changes
- Material and Cupertino are standalone packages – `material_ui` and `cupertino_ui` can now ship on pub.dev independently from the Flutter SDK. The libraries remain available in the core SDK during the migration period.
- Impeller is now the desktop default – macOS, Windows, and Linux use Impeller by default. This moves desktop rendering toward the same modern rendering architecture already used on mobile.
- Flutter Web is moving toward Wasm by default – production builds can opt in with `flutter build web –wasm`. Flutter 3.47 also added experimental deferred loading support for Wasm on the main channel.
- Widget Previews are stable – individual widgets can be rendered and inspected without launching the full app. The stable release adds caching, theme layering, search, filtering, and web asset synchronization.
- Apple minimum versions increased – Flutter 3.47 raises the minimum supported iOS version from 13 to 15 and macOS from 10.15 to 12.
- Swift Package Manager adoption is further along – Flutter reported that 92 of the top 100 iOS plugins had migrated to SwiftPM at the 3.47 release.
- Android build requirements moved forward – Flutter 3.47 is verified with Java 17, Kotlin Gradle Plugin 2.4.0, Android Gradle Plugin 9.1.0, Gradle 9.3.1, compile SDK 36, target SDK 36, and minimum SDK 24.
Upgrade Notes
Upgrade the stable SDK first:
flutter upgrade
flutter --version
flutter doctor
Then check package compatibility:
flutter pub outdated
flutter analyze
flutter test
For Flutter Web, test Wasm separately before changing production deployment:
flutter build web --release --wasm
For apps using Material or Cupertino, the new standalone packages are opt-in in the 3.47 line. Use the migration guide below before changing imports across a large app or package.
Platform Checks Before Shipping
- iOS and macOS – confirm your deployment targets meet the new minimum versions and test custom native lifecycle code.
- Desktop – test animation-heavy screens and custom rendering with Impeller enabled.
- Web – run a Wasm build and inspect any dependency warnings involving `dart:html`, `dart:js`, or `package:js`.
- Android – verify your Gradle, AGP, KGP, Java, and SDK settings if the project overrides Flutter defaults.
